Motor City Comic Con

I worked with the photo department on the concept of making the centerpiece look like a comic book. I used Photoshop for the illustration which almost didn’t run because wouldn’t you know it, Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Justin Verlander almost pitched a no-hitter that night. He ended up giving up one hit and this centerpiece ended up running.

Old English D 

This is an illustration I did for the Detroit Free Press for a story about the popularity of the Old English D, the logo for the Detroit Tigers and a popular icon for the city of Detroit. I gathered over 1600 user-submitted photos of Detroiters wearing Old English D clothing and cropped in on the D and used those pictures to build a mosaic of larger Old English D. 

Jennifer Granholm Illustration

I did this illustration of Jennifer Granholm for the Detroit Free Press. I used Illustrator, Photoshop and 3D programs to render this illustration which ran in the editorial pages of the Detroit Free Press.

Super Bowl XL graphic

Working with the Detroit News graphics department I designed four of these pages, one for each quarter of Super Bowl XL. The pages diagram each team’s possession of a quarter along with a diagram of a key play. Along the bottom, graphics show the time of possession, total offense for each team and interesting statistical numbers. 

I also designed the branding the paper used for its Super Bowl XL coverage which can be seen in the upper left of this page.

Detroit Free Press Illustration

I built this mosaic of rapper Eminem using M&Ms candies. I scanned several packages of the chocolatey treats and arranged them on top of a reference photo using several computer programs. In the end over 10,000 images of M&Ms were used for this illustration which ran on the front page of the Detroit Free Press weekend Entertainment section.

Home page redesign

I redesigned the front page of the web site comicscontinuum.com. I handed coded the entire page using HTML and CSS. I also designed the site’s logo. The main source of revenue for my client was site advertising so I built a site that could accommodate all the ads but still have room for all the content he wanted on the homepage. 

Detroit Free Press page design

This is the front page of the Detroit Free Press that I designed. I also did the centerpiece illustration combining photos in Photoshop. 

RomainBlanquart.com

This is a the front page of the website I built for photographer Romain Blanquart. This client wanted a site that would be easy for him to update and robust if traffic spiked. I chose Squarespace as a host for the site and custom designed the pages using HTML and CSS. I designed a slideshow viewer using Flash and javascript.
